     dog breeds
English Bulldog skull - an excellent example of an undershot jaw - common in breeds that were historically used for bull baiting.  However, if the nasal passages become too short the dog sometimes has difficulty breathing and can also suffer skin infections that develop in the skin wrinkles on the face.  (this head shape is also known as brachycephalic - short-headed)
Rottweiller skull - a breed with a large wide head and medium-length jaws.  The breed standard calls for an interlocking bite (also called "scissors bite") - this is typical of all wild canids.  This skull shape is mesocephalic - medium length head.
Rough collie ("Lassie")  skull - a long, narrow skull with an extended muzzle.  This skull shape is closer to most wild canids.  This shape is known as doliocephalic - long- headed.
